In Support of “National Judicial Outreach Week” (2019)
Resolution 6: In Support of "National Judicial Outreach Week"
WHEREAS, public trust and confidence in state courts is integral to the full functioning of our system of justice; and
WHEREAS, public understanding of the importance of the rule of law is central to the mission of America's courts; and
WHEREAS, research demonstrates that the public would like the opportunity to more directly engage with judges outside of the courtroom; and
WHEREAS, in 2017, the American Bar Association (ABA) Judicial Division launched an inaugural "National Judicial Outreach Week" program to encourage active and retired judges to invite their communities to their courthouses and to go into their communities to meet with the public and talk about the importance of fair and impartial courts and the work judges do every day; and
WHEREAS, the ABA has prepared a set of resource materials to assist judges with conducting outreach which are available at ambar.org/njow, and
WHEREAS, the third annual National Judicial Outreach Week is scheduled for March 1-10, 2019;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Conference of Chief Justices encourages its members, and judges from across the country, to participate actively in National Judicial Outreach Week, March 1-10, 2019.
