In Support of the American Bar Association’s "And Justice for All" National Issues Forum Program
Resolution 8: In Support of the American Bar Association's "And Justice for All" National Issues Forum Program
WHEREAS, public trust and confidence in the justice system are essential to our republican form of government; and
WHEREAS, surveys consistently show both that the public's knowledge about the judicial system is uneven and that public trust and confidence in the justice system are enhanced by better understanding the system; and
WHEREAS, the American Bar Association (ABA) partnered with the Kettering Foundation to create the And Justice for All: Ensuring Public Trust and Confidence in the Justice System National Issues Forum Program to encourage the public to participate with the bench and the bar in promoting a better understanding of our justice system; and
WHEREAS, sponsoring And Justice for All forums allows judges, lawyers, and policymakers to hear what the public thinks about the justice system; and
WHEREAS, excellent materials — including booklets, moderators' guides, videos, and a website — have been created to assist those who convene these forums;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Conference of Chief Justices and the Conference of State Court Administrators endorse the ABA's And Justice for All National Issues Forum Program and encourage their members to lend support to sponsorship of these forums by state and local bar associations in their jurisdictions.
Adopted as proposed by the Joint CCJ/COSCA Public Trust and Confidence in the Judiciary Committee at the Annual Meeting on July 31, 2003.
