Resolution 10: In Support of the JUVENILE DELINQUENCY GUIDELINES: Improving Court Practice in Juvenile Delinquency Cases
WHEREAS, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges has developed the JUVENILE DELINQUENCY GUIDELINES: Improving Court Practice in Juvenile Delinquency Cases (Guidelines), in consultation with representatives from the Conference of Chief Justices, the Conference of State Court Administrators, the National Center for State Courts and others; and
WHEREAS, judges with jurisdiction over juvenile delinquency cases are charged with the responsibility of balancing the needs of juvenile offenders and community safety; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Guidelines is to set forth the essential elements of effective practice for the court processes that are involved in the management of juvenile delinquency cases, including identifying recommended practices; and
WHEREAS, the Guidelines will assist courts with jurisdiction over juvenile delinquency cases to assess current practice, identify areas in need of improvement, and work toward positive change;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Conference of Chief Justices hereby encourages the juvenile and family courts to consider and use the practices recommended in the Guidelines.
