WHEREAS, Chief Justice Mark S. Cady served with distinction on the Iowa Supreme Court from 1998 to 2019, and was named Chief Justice of the Iowa Supreme Court in 2011, where he served until his passing; and

WHEREAS, Chief Justice Cady was known across the country as a thoughtful and fair jurist who dedicated his professional life to the pursuit of fair and equal justice; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, Chief Justice Cady was a tireless champion of juvenile and family justice reform, working to expand access to justice; and

WHEREAS, Chief Justice Cady was a model leader among his peers, serving on the Courts, Children and Families Committee, on the Board of Directors, and as the President of the Conference of Chief Justices; and

WHEREAS, it was under his vision and leadership that the comprehensive, national Family Justice Initiative was formed and the Principles for Family Justice Reform were endorsed by resolution of the Conference of Chief Justices as a "worthy guide to improve delivery of justice" in our nation's family courts; and

WHEREAS, the Courts, Children and Families Committee of the Conference of Chief Justices and the Conference of State Court Administrators desire to name the initiative after Chief Justice Cady to honor his legacy for inspiring this family law reform effort of national significance;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Conference of Chief Justices and the Conference of State Court Administrators join to name the Family Justice Initiative the Chief Justice Mark S. Cady Family Justice Reform Initiative.
