Resolution 1 In Recognition of the Achievements of Mary C. McQueen and the Establishment of the Mary C. McQueen Court Leadership Award
WHEREAS, Mary C. McQueen has served with distinction in the courts and justice systems of this nation since 1975, including service in Kentucky, the District of Columbia, Washington, and the National Center for State Courts (NCSC); and
WHEREAS, Ms. McQueen served seventeen years as the State Court Administrator for Washington and she is beginning her tenth year as President of the NCSC; and
WHEREAS, throughout her career, Ms. McQueen has been an advocate for court and judicial reform and has advanced the field of court administration significantly in her service to the court and justice community; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McQueen has demonstrated leadership excellence at the national, state, and local levels of judicial administration; and
WHEREAS, as a result of her advocacy efforts, the stature of the NCSC has been enhanced and is recognized throughout the world for its trusted leadership, proven solutions, and development of better courts; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McQueen has been awarded the 2014 John Marshall Award, presented by the American Bar Association, recognizing an individual who has made a positive national impact on the justice system; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to establish an award of national significance that recognizes and honors outstanding court and justice system improvement and leadership, as exemplified by Mary C. McQueen; and
WHEREAS, the National Association for Court Management and the National Conference of Metropolitan Courts desire to establish an award in the name of Mary C. McQueen to honor her for inspiring future generations of court leaders;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Conference of Chief Justices and the Conference of State Court Administrators join with the National Association for Court Management and the National Conference of Metropolitan Courts to establish an annual award to be named in Mary C. McQueen's honor to recognize the achievements of court leaders and their pursuit of excellence in court and justice system improvement.
