Resolution 7: Expression of Gratitude to Counsel for the Conference of Chief Justices' Amicus Brief in Caperton v. Massey
WHEREAS, the Conference of Chief Justices (the Conference) decided to file an amicus brief in Caperton v. Massey; and
WHEREAS, the Conference obtained the pro bono services of Thomas R. Phillips and Andrew York of Baker Botts L.L.P., George T. Patton of Bose McKinney & Evans L.L.P, and Professor Roy A. Schotland of the Georgetown Law Center to draft the brief and work with the Conference Amicus Review Team to revise and refine it; and
WHEREAS, the counsel named above worked within a very tight deadline over the holiday season to complete successive drafts of a brief that required considerable nuance and subtlety to reflect the view of the Conference; and
WHEREAS, the legal acumen and dedication of those counsel made it possible for the Conference to file a well-written amicus brief that supported neither party yet offered valuable assistance to the Court.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Conference of Chief Justices expresses its profound gratitude to:
Thomas R. Phillips, Andrew York and Baker Botts L.L.P.;
George T. Patton of Bose McKinney L.L.P.; and
Roy A. Schotland, Professor of Law, Georgetown Law Center.
